  1. NGC6397 is a bright globular cluster 
  2. first discovered in 1755. This is a 
  3. fairly loose cluster, making it easy to 
  4. resolve individual stars in small 
  5. instruments. Being located in the far 
  6. southern skies it is not visible in the 
  7. United States. The cluster is about 8000
  8. times more luminous then the sun, and is 
  9. close to 50 light years across. This is 
  10. regarded as the closest globular, half 
  11. the distance of NGC5139 (Omega Centuri)
  12. and NGC104.
